When I was a kid fresh off the boat from England and living in Rochester, NY it was remarkably difficult to find many of the old "comforts from home" in the United States. Yet with the Canadian border only a short distance from home and the excitement of Toronto only a few hours further, we soon became regular customers of Eatons, Simpsons, Loblaws, and the then many small shops along Bay and Bloor Streets.

My love affair with Canada has never ended. This year we visited Niagara on the Lake, Tobermory, and the charming little lakeside town of Port Stanley. Last summer we were in Newfoundland, and the summer before that, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec.

We try to get to Toronto a few times a year, usually to take in a Blue Jays game.
